The 411 on MMR

You've probably heard about the recent outbreak of measles originating from Disneyland, and our team wants help keep you informed about the MMR vaccine and how it can protect children from illness.

The MMR vaccine is important because it helps prevent three serious viral diseases: measles, mumps, and rubella. As parents, you know how susceptible children are to illness, and for young children, contracting measles can be highly dangerous and at times, deadly.

We recommend most children to receive part one of the MMR vaccine between 12-15 months of age. The second part of the vaccine is typically administered between the ages of four and six.

Measles Symptoms:

  • Rash
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Runny Nose
  • Red, watery eyes

Important to Know:

  • Measles is very contagious and can be spread through air (typically by coughing or sneezing, and the virus can live up to two hours in the air or on a surface).
  • MMR vaccine can be administered along with other vaccines.
  • Many health insurance plans cover the vaccine.
  • Measles can lead to other problems such as ear infections, pneumonia, seizures, brain damage, and even death.
